Mets Lose; Parnell Blows

"I love blowing it." -Bobby P
“I love blowing it.” -Bobby P

Pirates 3, Mets 2 (F/10)

Parnell blows. I don’t really want to get into it. His ERA on the night was infinity (not an exaggeration). Where’s Black? Where’s Montero? Where’s Blevins? ALLLLLL DEEEEEAAAADD. Colon pitched very well. Cespedes went 3-5 with a dinger and a double. Don’t ever put Parnell in during a tight situation. REMINDER TO METSBLOW NATION: He’s always been bad. He used to throw 100mph and be bad. Now he throws 93 and is worse. He was mediocre at best a few years ago. Familia (and Mejia) are bar none the best we’ve ever had at closer. Franco, Benitez, Parnell…give me a break. Orosco’s glove is cursing out Parnell from the space station that it landed on.

Where’s Duda? Also dead. By the way, Ike Davis is tearing it the fuck up in Oakland. Don’t get me wrong, I’d much rather have an alive Duda, but he ain’t alive.

Today is the biggest game of the season. We’re currently 0-11 against the Cubs and Pirates. Uhhhhh…kinda gotta beat those teams.

Mets Win; Thor Doesn’t Blow

Mets 12, Rockies 3

The only thing I really have to complain about is that MetsBlow is becoming difficult to write.

Thor started out blowing, but righted the ship. Great to see. Young dude without his best stuff, still battling, still managing to get by, and still learning. D-Wright taking his ham sandwich was the best move ever.

Ron Darling referred to Yoenis Cespedes as an “uh-oh hitter” which is basically saying that he’s an impact bat. Darling said that when he pitched, and there was an uh-oh hitter in the lineup, it messed with his concentration. A guy that can hit any pitch in any direction with pop. A guy that scares you. A guy that, even when making an out, makes you sweat. A guy that makes the whole lineup better by proxy and assimilation.

Everyone contributed today. Special day. Special sweep. Special team.

This weekend, the Pirates come to town. Another test, and we’ll have our back-end of the rotation going, but so will they. They’ll miss deGrom and Thor (and Matz due to injury). We’ll miss Cole and Liriano (and Burnett due to injury). We’ll still get Harvey going on Sunday. Let’s see Niese and Colon go to work.

Another Boring Mets Win

Mets 3, Rockies 0

“The best pitcher in the game, hands down.” -Carlos Gonzalez on Jacob deGrom. Gonzalez is in the NL west, regular facing Greinke and Kershaw.

Another shutout. deGrom making another Cy Young worthy start. Yawn. Whatevs. Clippard in the 8th. Familia in the 9th. Just going through the motions.

Cespedes hit his first dinger as a Met. Nothing we didn’t see in the 2013 ASG or for his entire career. Just an oppo blast like it was nothing after getting chin music on the previous pitch.

And tomorrow Thor (our other OTHER OOOTHER ace) goes for the sweep. Snooze.

This team appears to be without hubris (at least right now). That’s great, because Metsblow Nation is going crazy. We’d been begging and begging for Cespedes, and we got him. We were willing to settle for Kang, Puig, really any impact bat. The Jewpons partially opened their Jew wallets and ONCE AGAIN our elite pitching wins with just enough hitting. We went from garbage doodoo hitting to having enough hitting. Wild swing. And thankfully the Nats BLOOOOW. They had the entire first half of the season to pull away and they didn’t because they blow. Now we’re good, and we’re looking to ADD TO OUR LEAD IN THE NL EAST. Wow. NL Least for sure.

Mets Win Game; Inexplicably Send Plawecki Down

Always double down on 11.
Always double down on 11.

Mets 4, Rockies 0

I thought there’d be nothing but good news. HA! HA FUCKING HA. What a moron I am–to think! Good! News! HA!

Harvey was brilliant. Elite pitching and just enough hitting. We got it again. Lagares is hungry again (but still needs TJ). So is Ruben (na de naaa naa). Murph is benefitting from hitting in front of Cespedes (I’m still in shock that we have him). Is Duda dead? No word.

The Rockies’ starters are looking studly. When you think elite NL pitching, you think of guys like Clayton Kershaw, Matt Harvey, and Chris Rusin. Thanks to bitch ex-Yankee Boone Logan, we were able to win again. He loves walking Grandy. The Rockies really need our boy Adam Ottavino back (where Brooklyn at?) badly.

For no fucking reason whatsoever, the Mets have sent Plawecki down and brought Recker up. Welcome back to the 24 man roster, Metsblow nation. What the fuck are they doing? When I heard the news, I thought for sure it was due to injury. But apparently it’s reps. YAAAAY reps.

In the pennant race: Greinke is mowing down the Nats. Fuck ’em. And fuck the full report, I don’t give a shit, I ain’t staying up. Go to NatsBlow.com you bums. **UPDATE: Well, I’m still awake, whatever, fuck y’all. Nats lose. Shut out by Greinke. FUCK EM. Mets are 2.5 up.

Happy #HarveyDay and Duda’s Dead

Just some minor stiffness
Just some minor stiffness

Mets 4, Rockies 2

Niese was brilliant (again!). Other than a retarded pitch to the elite CarGo (duhhh he hit a dinger), Niese was excellent. So was the pen. Elite pitching and enough hitting got us the W. And that’s the kind of win we’ve been looking for all season. Hell, it was even a comeback victory. The Comeback Kids!

Reyes got a nice ovation. He then got another ovation when he was caught stealing. He also let the game winning single from Murph go under his glove. It probably would’ve scored 1 anyway, but with the range he had in his prime (or with Tulo still at short), I think that play goes differently.

d’Arnaud hit a dinger. Nice to see him swinging a good bat again. Hopefully he can stay healthy. PRAY PRAY PRAY.

Moving forward…

They say Wright will be back. They say Matz will be back. Well here’s the real news: Duda is dead! Back stiffness, they say. Just a scratch, they say. Spinal stenosis, guaranteed. Happy #HarveyDay! Elite pitching and enough hitting.

Meanwhile, in the pennant race, the Nats go up against Greinke and Kershaw today and tomorrow. I don’t know how the fuck the Nats lost 2 out of 3 at home to the Rockies, but the Mets cannot make the same miscalculations. The Nats really blow to lose to the doody Rockies. That’s AWFUL. We’ve got Harvey, deGrom, and Thor lined up here. Their best pitcher already pitched yesterday. Must win, win, win.

Mets Still Blow; Nats Blow Harder

Rays 4, Mets 3

Mets drop the series, but go 4-2 on their Old Jewish Florida Road Trip.

Meanwhile, the Nats lost 2 out of 3 in WSH to the Rockies. Man do they blow. The Rockies don’t even have Tulo anymore. Now we play the Rockies for 4 (in Flushing). We’ll get to do a Jose chant or two, and hopefully smash this basement team into the earth. We ought to, because they’re BAD.

Mets Overcome 7th, 8th, and 9th Inning Deficits to Win

Mets win...again!?
Mets win…again!?

Mets 4, Rays 3

For the first time in team history, the Mets overcame deficits in each of the final 3 innings to win. Un-fucking-real. Team of destiny.

deGrom had a terrible outing, letting up 2 solo dingers. He let up two whole runs! GARBAGE! Two weeks ago, that’s a guaranteed loss. Clippard also let up a dinger. C’mon, Tyler, we need you to be excellent. Our bullpen feels awfully thin. But, amazingly, this new offense got to 4 runs and we won the fucking game. It could’ve more than 4 runs, also. Jelly ripped a ball that was caught (he should’ve just gotten a sac fly, though, dammit). Flores hit a home run that was pulled back by Sizemore–absolute web gem. The point is that we’re hitting. Later in the game, Flores eventually knocked in a run with some more heroics. He’s been clutch his whole career. Let’s see him put it all together.

Collins explicitly said he doesn’t want Conforto on the bench and that he needs his reps. Ummmmm, so start him? Start him for the Mets? With the new lineup and Cuddy healthy, Cuddy deserves playing time, too. But if Conforto is playing 3 games/wk, he’s not “on the bench” or whatever. I hate them. Soup over Conforto would be a travesty. It’s probably all moot, since Grandy got hurt making a very nice backhand play in the gap, going to his knees. His knee was banged up (fucking astroturf) but he stayed in the game. He was wincing and barking. Do NOT send Conforto down!!!

The umps love cheating, as always. Murph griped after a pitch that was a foot outside (and would’ve been ball 4 to load the bases for Cespedes). Keith said, “gripe worthy.” Classic anti-Mets bias. Can’t get cocky. That 8-6 win in Miami was a good reminder that there are strong forces working against us. Let’s not let hubris be one of them. Last night was a real gutsy win, ending with Familia thrusting his pelvis. ~Mejia: that’s my move!~

Without Gary, Ronnie and Keith did a fine job. Keith was reminiscing about Doc (who was also there) and what’s funny about the anecdote was that the story made perfect sense if you interjected, “and then we did a big fat line of blow,” every sentence or two.

Aaaaah God too many things are going our waaaaay. I don’t know what to do. In Washington, Storen is sabotaging the Nats for demoting him in favor of that diva bitch Papelbon. He let up a grand slam in the 8th to CarGo. In the Bronx, the Blue Jays beat the Junkies in 10 innings (Joey Bats dinger). By the way, Bryce had a perfect view of CarGo’s GS. Right over his head. He also struck out to end the game.

We’re so fucking hot right now. Cespedes is such a presence. He makes an…ummm…what’s the word? Impact? Seems like impact bats have an impact. Crazy. Murph does NOT get that pitch (that he hit a home run off of) without Cespedes behind him. Ya know what? We’re hot, but it’s something more. We score runs and don’t let up runs. I just think this is who we are. Winning every single game extra special, but I’m saying that this team for 162 games wins 99 or 100. So I think in our final 54 games, 33-21 is doable. 58-50 at the two-thirds mark could turn to 91-71. This team, if healthy, is elite. And the magic is with us right now, too. We didn’t have ANY until a week ago, so maybe we have enough stored away to last all the way.

Thor takes the hill tonight for a 6 o’clock game (those wacky Floridians). Let’s keep it rolling.

2/3 Season Report

Lotta baseball left
Lotta baseball left

The Mets have played 108 games. We’re 1.5 games AHEAD of the Nats for 1st place in the NL East. Don’t get cocky. There’s a lot of baseball left. Anything can happen. Our pitching has to stay dominant. Our team has to stay healthy. Our Cubanos have to stay Cuban.

Blevins died. He fell off a curb and died. Mets still doing METS things. We really could use him. O’Flaherty was horrendous in his Mets debut as a left-handed specialist. Blevins was our best arm for a minute, there. RIP. Where’s Montero? Where’s Matz?

Tonight we’re in Tampa. The last time we played the Rays, we had Duda in RF, Davis at 1st, and Bay in the outfield. The funny thing is that before a week ago, that lineup was better than ours.

Sweep. Freakin’ Sweep.

Mets 8, Marlins 6

25-8 on the series. It waaaas 25-2, but a 5-run 9th inning (O’Flaherty must still be Team Braves, and Robles goes from hot to cold almost every batter) kept the series from being a complete joke. Let’s brush past that. Let’s be optimistic because my mom told me to enjoy the “new and improved” team and not wait for the other shoe to drop. It didn’t drop. Not tonight, at least. We’re fucking rolling. Harvey finally gets run support and gets over his Miami troubles (without Stanton in the lineup, of course). 7 IP, 0 R, 2 H. Ho-hum.

And we’re scoring! In bunches! Cespedes is obviously the best player we’ve seen ever ever ever, but let’s not forget the additions of Conforto, Jelly, and Uribe. Conforto hit a crucial sac fly today when the game was still young,  and Uribe hit a 3-run BLAAAST (a billion feet) to make it a 7-0 game. Hooray for talented hitters. Hoo-fucking-ray.

Tomorrow is an off day. It’s also Wilmer “No More Tears by Johnson & Johnson” Flores’ 24th birthday. He’s still just a boy. He’s got a lil time to develop. Put Jelly at 2nd (especially against righties) and all of a sudden, Flores can start games in better environments where he can flourish. Depth!! Deeeppptthh!!

I Don’t Know What to Believe Anymore

"Cigars on me."
“Cigars on me.”

Mets 5, Marlins 1

Here we are, scoring 5 and letting up 1. Even Campbell got a ribby. Niese stellar as usual (other than when he’s simultaneously watching his wife give birth via skype). Clippard and Familia came in with a 4-run lead, which I guess I’m ok with…can’t overuse or underuse ’em. It’s tricky. What’s NOT tricky is that the Mets faced a lefty tonight. How bout giving Duda a break and letting Travis play first? Put Plawecki at C. TDA took a foul ball square in the nuts today (just like yesterday!) and is bound to shatter his glass bones at any moment. Glass bones, iron balls.

When will the other shoe drop? Will it actually not drop? We’re not supposed to have nice things! Will the Mets stay healthy? Will Cespedes continue to get RBIs and score runs like the monster beast hitter that he is? Is he too good for METS disease?

More on Cespedes: Watch him bat. Watch him NOT swing at dogshit pitches. Watch him take his way into hitters’ counts. Watch him hit line drives every fucking time, even when he makes out. It’s unreal. Is he the best hitter we’ve ever had ever? Straw, Beltran, Reyes, Wright, Delgado…realistically, is he the best Met hitter ever? Oh by the way, he also has a cannon for an arm and fields well and runs  well.

Enjoy this, Metsblow nation. I don’t know what to believe anymore. I don’t know what’s going on, but I think we’re actually good now…that is to say, I think we blow less than (almost) all the rest of ’em. I really do.
